Job Description
I. Job Description Summary
The Children’s Worship Hour Ministry Coordinator will help children become like Jesus by leading the worship hour faith nurture ministries of FCC - Seeds Nursery, Explore, Wonder, and Dig. This will be done through a partnership with parents, intergenerational relationships, and a Reformed world and life view. The job will average 10-12 hours per week.
II. Skills
A. Openly and eagerly profess a personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, a love for the church universal, and a commitment to the vision of Ferrysburg Community Church.
B. An understanding of the various levels of cognitive and spiritual development and the personal and relational skills necessary to help children and volunteers grow in their relationship with Christ and each other. Familiarity with the challenges of children with special needs.
C. Administrative abilities needed to coordinate a dynamic program of faith nurture, and the relational skills to work effectively with volunteers and children.
D. A genuine desire to welcome new families into our programs.
III. Responsibilities
A. Coordinate the worship hour children’s ministries on Sunday morning.
1. Oversee the Seeds Nursery, Explore, Wonder, and Dig.
2. Recruit and schedule volunteers.
3. Encourage and equip volunteers.
4. Work closely with the Children & Family Ministries leader to communicate information and updates to participant families.
5. Oversee the check-in process for children.
B. Implement and oversee safe church practices for our children’s ministries.
C. Be thoughtful and creative regarding new ways to grow an increasingly effective ministry of faith nurture for children at Ferrysburg Community Church.
III. Accountability
The Children and Family Ministry Coordinator is under the supervision of the Children and Family Ministry Coordinator and the senior pastor.
Specific responsibilities at this time would include the following:
1. Oversee the Seeds Nursery, Explore, Wonder, and Dig.
● Prepare weekly lessons and materials for Explore, Dig and summer worship hour classes for preschool and elementary students and send out the lesson plans to the scheduled leader.
● Sunday morning responsibilities include making sure volunteers and assistants are present.
● Nursery oversight includes quarterly deep cleaning with the nursery supervisors and ensuring (with the nursery supervisors) that the nursery has adequate supplies.
● Ensure that classrooms are inviting and help support a strong growth environment.
2. Recruit and schedule volunteers.
● Find leaders and assistants for classes with help from the Children & Family Ministries leader.
● Work with the administrative assistant to prepare schedules.
3. Encourage and equip volunteers.
● Meet with Explore, Wonder and Dig leaders at least once annually.
● Be intentional with informal words of encouragement.
● Work with the CFM leader for formal thanks and training opportunities.
4. Work with our Children & Family Ministries Leader to communicate information and updates to participant families.
● Share home pages with CFM leader to be sent out with weekly emails.
● Share schedule changes with the administrative assistant and CFM leader to be updated on the calendar and weekly reminders sent out from the office.
5. Oversee the check-in process for children.
● Gain competency in running Planning Center.
● Work with CFM leader and administrative assistant to ensure volunteers and a schedule are in place.
